Day 1
A first walk through the old city and a look at the exterior of the Id Kah Mosque.
Day 2
The famous Sunday livestock and bazaar markets, and a wander through the old-town alleys.
Day 3
A drive along the Karakoram Highway, past Karakul Lake and into Tajik and Kyrgyz herding country.
Day 4
A return route along the margins of the Taklamakan desert, through oasis towns along the way.
Day 5
The ancient Karez water tunnels, the ruins of Jiaohe, and Turpan's grape valley, in one of the hottest, lowest places on Earth.
Day 6
A regional museum, the city's bazaar, and a conversation on the region's recent history.
Day 7
A deeper look at the city and the contrasts of a rapidly developing region.
